What constitutes a wildlife crime?

The following fall under wildlife crime:

  • Unlawful killing or wounding of wild species

  • Unlawful possession of wild species

  • Unlawful sale of wild species, whole or parts, and/or items claimed to contain protected wild species

  • Encroachment into protected areas

  • Illegal forest clearing, through logging or burning

This includes for the following purposes: 

Illegal pet trade

Exotic meat trade

Use in traditional medicines

Talismans, amulets, decorative items and souvenirs
