Citizen Action for Tigers (CAT) Walk is the only conservation program in the world where members of the public can be directly involved in protecting the Malayan Tiger in its natural habitat.

MYCAT’s purpose is to bring people together for tiger conservation. After achieving its purpose as a collaborative platform for the government and NGOs, MYCAT’s motto, Saving Tigers Together, was expanded to engage the wider public.

We believe that the public must be part of the long-term solutions for a better future. Through MYCAT’s Citizen Action for Tigers (CAT) program, we aim to inspire people to take positive and direct action for a better future, one that includes large forests full of biodiversity.

Led by trained volunteers or MYCAT staff, and guided by a member of the local community, CAT Walk participants will walk trails within the Sungai Yu Ecological Corridor that have been identified as known poaching hotspots by MYCAT staff and Community Rangers.

You’ll assist MYCAT and local authorities to look for signs of illegal activity, deactivate snares and traps, report possible wildlife crimes identify and spot and identify wildlife signs as part of an ongoing collective effort to secure Peninsula Malaysia’s most important wildlife corridor for the Malayan tiger and other flora and fauna which share its habitat. Your presence also serves to deter potential illegal activities like poaching, illegal mining and encroachment.

Participant Testimonials

CAT Walk Plus

"The most meaningful part of experience was knowing that the CAT Walks and MYCAT's efforts are making a difference, as seen from camera trap evidence and animal signs in the area. Much respect to MYCAT for the hard work and sticking at it over many years for changes to finally materialise."

Jocelyn

"It was a great experience to be able to interact with and see the natural landscapes. It's also very heartwarming to see the ground up community efforts that goes into protecting the corridor. We were also safe and well taken care of throughout the trip."

Jeng Wei

"The CAT Walk Plus was an educational and inspirational experience! It was wonderful to be immersed in nature while learning about the issues of poaching and illegal farming from our knowledgable guides. I also enjoyed seeing the local community nursery and taking part in the reforestation project to help improve connectivity for wildlife."

Robin Carney

"Exceeded expectations. I am experienced in field research and similar events organised to involve the public in wildlife conservation. I was impressed by the organisation, the quality of the briefings, and the integration of MYCAT with the Bateq. The synergy of ‘see the forest, then see the people who conserve the forest’ neatly squared the circle."
